Dear Friend, The New York Shields is a non profit fraternal organization composed of law enforcement personnel of all ranks throughout the State of
New York.
The New York Shields was established in 1990 to fill a void that, until then, had been grossly overlooked. Everyday, the men and women of law enforcement put their lives on the line to protect this great state of ours.
Unfortunately, too many of them make the ultimate sacrifice-their own lives! Our purpose is to offer a strong support system to the families of those slain heroes and to honor other acts of selfless heroism by surviving officers.
During the year, the New York Shields honors such acts by presenting our fellow officers with a Hero of the Month award, as well as our Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Cross medals awarded to those who have been wounded or
severely injured in the line of duty. To date, the Shields have proudly honored over six hundred (600) such officers throughout the law enforcement community.
Each May, a Memorial Breakfast is hosted by the Shields honoring the
families of slain officers who have made the "supreme sacrifice." The Shields Medal of Valor is presented to a family member at this time. At years end, the Shields honors their Boss of the Year and their Person of the
Year. Also in May is our bus trip to the Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington,D.C. during which we escort the families of those officers who have made the "supreme sacrifice" to the National Memorial and to
events surrounding the official ceremonies.
Since it's inception, the New York Shields Inc., has become one of the most visible and widely respected fraternal organizations throughout New York, lending additional support to
organizations who also seek to honor and assist the surviving parents and families of those officers slain in the line of duty.
This organization would not stand so tall without the help from such caring people as are seen within
its membership, or exemplified by their support.
